2014 Nissan GT-R Track Edition AWD 2-Dr Coupe V6 Overview
2014 Nissan GT-R Overview
The GT-R is Nissan’s supercar in production from 2007 to the present. It was released in Japan at the end of 2007 and in North America in 2008. Models have a two-door coupe body style with a front engine all-wheel-drive layout. Models are still in their first generation.
The GT-R is one of the rarer supercar models on the road and may not be as well known as a number of supercars from makers better known for this type of vehicle like Ferrari or Porsche. It has built a reputation for excellent performance and its distinctive look. The 2014 models have received a lot of praise in the areas of their exterior style, the standard adaptive suspension, standard backup camera, large quality brakes, four-season performance potential thanks to four-wheel drive, and speed and acceleration. Areas that have received some criticism include the lack of a fully manual option, a very high price range, and poor gas mileage.
Nissan makes two trims levels, each available with a range of individual and package options: Premium all-wheel-drive coupe and Black Edition all-wheel-drive coupe.
New for 2014
The GT-R has not undergone a major redesign since its introduction, but each year has received various engineering upgrades. The chassis and suspension received some improvements for the 2014 model year and a Premium Interior Package was added which includes upscale additions like a hand-stitched red interior.
The GT-R has a very aggressive front with large intakes and a unique logo. It has sharp lines throughout, specifically through the hood, and around the wheel wells. The body style is more that of a muscle car than a typical supercar. Large 20-inch wheels and a large spoiler are standard. It uses ultra-high-performance summer run-flat tires and all-season tires are available. Exterior trims include Premium and a Black Edition, which comes with black-aluminum forged wheels and a dry-carbon-fiber rear spoiler.
Interior & Cargo
The GT-R seats four people, two in the front and two in the back. The front positions are roomy and comfortable but the rear positions can become very cramped. Standard upholstery is leather combined with imitation suede and different materials are available. All models have heated power front seats. With the Black Edition, the GT-R gets upgraded leather racing seats. A limited-edition Premium Interior Package has hand-stitched red leather front seats and red trim throughout including around the shifter, armrests, instrument panel, and the steering wheel. The GT-R comes with a fair number of standard features including on/off automatic headlights, navigation system, backup camera, speed-sensitive windshield wipers, and a Bose sound system, Bluetooth streaming audio, DVD video playback, and satellite radio with a subscription.
The GT-R has front and side-impact airbags for the front row and side curtain airbags for both rows, anti-lock brakes, and electronic stability control.
The 2014 Nissan GT-R has a 545-hp, 3.8-liter, V-6, premium gasoline engine rated at 463 lb-ft of torque. The 2014 models get new fuel injectors that have increased torque. All models get a six-speed auto-shift manual with overdrive and auto-manual, via the paddle shifters. The engine is hand assembled, not manufactured, and it powers all four wheels in all models. The GT-R gets an EPA estimated 16/23 mpg city/highway.
Performance of the GT-R is incredible by nearly any standard. It can go from zero to 60 mph in under four seconds, handling is very responsive with all four wheels working in conjunction, and top speeds are up there with anything in its class. Functions like shock absorbers, transmission performance, stability system, and AWD can be adjusted with dashboard switches.
