Introduced in 2002, the Pilot is Honda’s biggest SUV and a critical and commercial success for the Japanese carmaker in various countries. The overall box-like design of the 2013 Honda Pilot of the may not look appealing to some people but it is this design that gives the SUV so much space inside. The front end gets big, rectangular headlights with a three-bar grille at the center. Four body trim levels are available: LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The base model LX gets 17-inch steel wheels and automatic headlights. The EX model gets 18-inch alloys instead, along with heated side mirrors and fog lamps. The EX-L gets the same exterior features but with a few additions inside. The top-end 2013 Honda Pilot Touring gets all the above features with roof rails and parking sensors.
Interior & Cargo
Standard interior features in the 2013 Honda Pilot include cruise control, tilting and telescoping steering wheel, and an eight-inch central display screen. The vehicle also comes with a seven-speaker sound system with USB/iPod connectivity, auxiliary input jack, and CD playback. Overall, the 2013 Honda Pilot has a well-designed and put-together cabin inside. A few substandard parts here and there take away some of the charm, but not by a large margin. The dashboard with the central display is made of high-quality materials on the button and frame, but a few of them are poorer in quality.

Standard safety features in the 2013 Honda Pilot include stability control, anti-lock brakes, and full-length side curtain and front-seat side airbags. Braking power is a little below average but an improvement from previous years. The NHTSA gave the SUV four stars out of five for frontal crash protection and full five stars for side impact crash protection. The IIHS gave the car its highest rating of “good” in roof strength, side impact, and frontal offset tests.
All four trims of the 2013 Honda Pilot get the same 3.5-liter, V-6 engine that delivers 250 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. It gets a five-speed automatic transmission only and front-wheel drive is standard. However, some models can be order with all-wheel drive. This system transfers most of the power from the front to rear wheels if the system detects that the front wheels are slipping. In case the SUV is stuck in a ditch, a lock feature transfers most of the torque to the rear wheels in first and second gears to free the vehicle. Unfortunately, the SUV feels larger than it should be and the V-6 engine can be underpowered in certain circumstances.
