Overview

Believe it or not, the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic has class leading horsepower. For a car this size it is great to see that it is so quick and powerful. In addition to the horsepower, there are several other things that set the Sonic apart from the competition. For example, it is also known for being very comfortable and very efficient. Also, depending on which trim level you get there is a chance that you will be very surprised just how much room there is. The Sonic comes in six trim levels–three are sedans and three are hatchbacks. You can expect to pay between $14,000 and $17,000 regardless of which trim level you choose.

Pricing

The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic base model sedan is the LS and it costs around $14,000, but this is no typical base model. In fact, you will get quite a few upgrades that will make it well worth your while.
If you do decide, however, that you want a bit more for your money you can upgrade to the Sonic LT for $15,000 and get full power everything.

If you really want to ensure that you are getting the most car possible you can get the top of the line LTZ for $17,000. Included in the purchase price are 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, heated front seats, and leatherette vinyl upholstery.

If you decide that you would be more interested in a hatchback that is ok too. The only thing is that they are a bit more expensive. The hatchbacks have all of the same features, upgrades and options that the sedans do but they are a bit roomier– hence the higher price tag. With the hatchback you can expect to pay between $15,000 and $17,000 which is slightly higher than their sedan counterpart.

Specs

For the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic LS, things such as 15-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, a four speaker sound system, and OnStar are all included.

In addition, the second level LT model will also get heated side mirrors, as well as, updated interior cloth.

The Sonic LTZ trim level will come with just about every option that you can think of.

Regardless if you get the sedan or the hatchback one additional thing that is nice about the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is the fact that it gets great fuel economy. You can expect to get around 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. This is a nice feature as the total cost of ownership of this car will be lower since it will cost less money to maintain and drive. That said, the engine is still very quick when compared to other vehicles in this class. The 2012 Sonic can go from 0-60 in 8.8 seconds which makes it one of the faster mid-size sedans out on the roadways today.

Review

Compared to the Ford Fiesta and the Hyundai Accent it is easy to see why the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is considered to be top in its class. It is a fuel efficient and safe vehicle that has plenty of horsepower. If you are looking for a car that you know will have a low cost of ownership then the Sonic is perfect for you. This is a great car for a small family or a single person that is interested in having a stylish car that won’t cost an arm and a leg to keep maintained on the road.

Safety

In terms of safety, the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic comes with some standard features that give the driver peace of mind. Included in every vehicle is stability control, anti-lock brakes, side curtain airbags, side impact airbags, and a front knee airbag. When you consider the price of the Sonic the fact that all of these safety features come standard is a nice bonus as some vehicles in this class do not have such a high commitment to driver and passenger safety.
